The Importance of Good Nutrition

The importance of good nutrition is health.

The importance of good nutrition is life. A good quality life.

If you don’t have your health, you won’t have time to spend or make money. Health they say, is KING.

Similarly, where there is life, there is hope.

There is a Problem…

The problem our generation has now is the LACK OF GOOD NUTRITION in diets. You’ve probably heard people say that we will live longer than this current generation coming through.

What our ancestors got was food with good nutrition in their diets.

Our ancestors got fresh foods from their gardens and farms. They could not store foods for long, so they had a lifestyle of eating fresh foods. This same reason is why their generations were a lot healthier than we are now.

In this day and age, we are able to get all kinds of foods all year round, regardless whether the foods are in season or out of season.

This has been made possible because huge advances in technology enable us to store foods and preserve them for longer.

Nowadays we have genetically modified food, fast food, junk foods, artificially-bred and injected animals with substances for fast-growing purposes, foods sprayed with chemicals and pesticides, canned foods, foods with additives to make them have longer shelf lives, look nicer, and taste nicer, and foods in jars. All sorts.

Well, the effect of all these is that the nutritional value of our foods has steadily declined over the decades. Our ancestors have enough nutrition in their raw foods to experiment with different cooking methods, good or bad, and still get enough nutritional value of their foods.

Malnutrition is the Result

Our generation is in such a state now. Statistics suggest that we are the most-overfed, but most under-nourished generation that has ever lived. What a paradox!

According to Wikipedia, malnutrition is the condition that results from taking an unbalanced diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high an intake) or in the wrong proportions.

The current children’s generation don’t have much of a chance. They’re actually being predicted to be the first generation that has the probability to be outlived by their parents!

What are we doing to ourselves?

Can you then see why lifestyle-related diseases are so prevalent in our society today? Can you see the importance of good nutrition in our meals to help combat, reverse, and prevent the current trends?

Otherwise, it’ll only get worse and worse. A lot of people don’t seem to understand the importance of good nutrition. People are not taking this seriously enough.

Statistics and Studies

In the UK alone, someone is diagnosed with diabetes every 3 minutes, and every hour 3 people die through diabetes or its complications.

A study conducted in America showed that diet is the factor most responsible for cancer and that’s a more powerful contributory factor than tobacco.

Currently in the UK someone is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes and sadly, in 1 in 3 cases it’s terminal.

Heart disease is not to be left out. Fats clogging up the arteries are the number one cause of heart disease in the world today.

The chances of contracting a heart disease in the UK, is 1 in 4.

What to Do?

So, we just need to cut out the excess fats, excess sugar, and excess salt, and replace that with good nutrition that’s important for our health and wellbeing.

Now, there’s not a lot we can do about the way foods are being grown nowadays, or the way livestock are being bred. Raw foods now don’t have the same nutrition they used to have.

You see, we’ve already lost some nutrition in our raw foods before we even start cooking it.

The best thing you can do for ourselves and your children is to get whatever good nutrition that’s left in your foods. You must strive to retain the nutrition left in your raw foods while preparing and cooking them. It’s the only sure way to our health. Medication won’t cut it.

Health is Wealth!

Take for instance, vegetables. Apart from the fact that vegetables are not being grown the way our ancestors grew them, vegetables also start to lose nutrients as soon as they’ve been picked. Freshly-picked vegetables from gardens or farms obviously contain more nutrients than canned or processed versions.

Frozen vegetables are still the best option if you are not picking fresh vegetables from the garden or farms straight to the kitchen. Usually, manufacturers try to freeze vegetables as soon as they’ve been picked, which locks in the nutrients. So up until the time you start to cook them, they should still have a lot of nutrients.

Are There Nutrients in Your Foods and Meals?

The question you should always ask yourself when you’re cooking, from the start of until you serve the meals onto your table is this: how are you cooking and preparing your vegetables and foods? Are you losing the nutrients in the foods to heat? Are you cooking out all the nutrients in food? Are you keeping the importance of good nutrition to your health in mind?

Stop cooking out the nutrition in your food.

The nutrients you may be cooking out are exactly what your body needs for functional existence. They are what your body needs to build up your immune system. They are what your body needs to maintain a strong immune system.

A strong immune system is what helps you fight, combat, prevent or reverse lifestyle diseases related to diet. Good nutrition in your meals is what your body needs to maintain a healthy weight.

The importance of good nutrition centres around the ability to be able to fight diseases and infections. What is that worth to you?

Priceless!

Our grandparents and great grandparents ate fresh foods. Explore farmers markets and early-morning food markets. The foods and vegetables there are usually low cost and fresh. And organic. You can buy fresh and cook immediately or store in the freezer immediately to lock in as many of the nutrients as possible.

You are Worth It!

Organic vegetables are not treated with substances for preservation purposes. Even if they did cost a little bit more, my personal take is that it’s better to spend a little bit more on your health. Because you’re worth it.

We spend money on cars, clothes, computers, TV and many other things. They are good, but it is the amount of nutrition you get from your foods that will determine what your health is like.

After all, what’s your health worth to you? Can you put a price on it? I guess not.

This is why the wellness industry stresses the importance of good nutrition in our diets.
